BasicByte Privacy Policy

BasicByte: Basic Computer Application (“BasicByte”, “the app”) is an educational Android application for learning computer hardware, software, networking, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Information stored on the device

BasicByte stores learner account details, optional profile information, lesson progress, quiz scores, badges, certificates, saved Code Lab projects, settings, and locally generated reports on the Android device. Technical crash details may also be written to a private local file.

This information remains on the device unless the user deliberately shares a report, certificate, project output, or diagnostic file using Android’s sharing features.

Internet use

Most learning content works offline. BasicByte may connect to retrieve a small app-status file, check for Google Play updates, install an update, or open a developer-configured update page. The app-status request does not include the learner’s identity, progress, scores, certificate, profile image, or saved code.

Crash reporting

Detailed Flutter crash information stays in a private file on the device unless the user voluntarily shares it from Settings. When distributed through Google Play, Google Play may process app stability information through Android vitals under Google’s own terms and privacy policies.

Data sharing and selling

BasicByte does not sell learner information. It contains no advertising, behavioral analytics, or developer-operated learner database. Local learner profiles, progress, quiz scores, photos, certificates, and projects are not automatically transmitted to the developer.

Children and schools

Schools, teachers, parents, and guardians should supervise account information entered by younger learners and avoid unnecessary personal information. A nickname or classroom identifier can be used instead of a personal email address.

Security and retention

Local information is retained until the user resets progress, deletes the local account, clears Android app storage, or uninstalls BasicByte. Passwords are stored as cryptographic hashes rather than plain text.

User choices

Users can omit optional profile information, reset progress, delete the local account, clear Android app storage, uninstall BasicByte, and choose whether to share generated files.

Third-party services

Google Play services may process limited app and device metadata for distribution and in-app updates according to the Google Privacy Policy and Google Play terms.
